MLS Chief and Club Owners Share Vision for US Soccer at Leaders in Football

The hugely respected architect of Major League Soccer’s growth and development, Commissioner Don Garber, will be speaking alongside a panel of MLS club owners at the prestigious 5th annual Leaders in Football conference, taking place at Chelsea FC on the 10th and 11th October 2012.

The MLS panel will bring together some of the very top people in US sport and tackle a range of topics, including why they invest in US soccer, the long-term plans and vision for football in the country, and driving growth in a crowded and competitive market.

Commissioner Garber said “Leaders in Football provides a great environment for sharing ideas with executives from other national leagues and I’m really looking forward to participating this year.”

He added “Soccer in North America has evolved and grown significantly during the last few years and the timing of the conference provides the opportunity to discuss our progress in front of the top people in world football.”

Commissioner Garber was appointed in 1999 following a hugely successful 16 years with the NFL, where he left as Managing Director of NFL International.

Under his leadership, MLS has undergone a number of significant changes and he has received praise from all areas of the US sports industry for his achievements.

Of special note have been his longer-term growth strategies, which have included the establishment of Soccer United Marketing, large increases in the number of soccer-specific stadiums in use (a rise from 1 in 1999, to 15 of the 19 teams in 2012) and commercial development of the league’s TV rights.
