(WFI) Poland's oldest chocolate brand E. Wedel is the first Polish national sponsor of Euro 2012, UEFA announced today.

The announcement was made at a sponsorship event at the Legia stadium in Warsaw. Wedel is this year celebrating its 160 birthday anniversary. UEFA's Euro 2012 operations director Martin Kallen was at the signing ceremony.

Kallen is scheduled to speak at the Soccerex European Forum in Manchester on Wednesday in a session on the commercial opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in staging the UEFA’s showpiece.

Under its Euro 2012 sponsorship, Wedel will benefit from a wide range of rights, including brand recognition in official premises and the ability to run ticket promotions for its customers.

"The signing of the first Polish National Sponsor for UEFA EURO 2012 marks another milestone in the build-up to the final tournament," said David Taylor, chief executive of UEFA Events SA, which manages European football governing body's commercial and event operations.

"The interest we have received from many Polish companies to be part of the sponsorship programme shows that these companies wish to be part of an event that will promote Poland and the best of what Poland has to offer."

UEFA's Euro 2012 commercial programme will consist of 10 sponsors with global rights, and four national sponsors' spots for companies in Poland and four in Ukraine.

Earlier this month, Korea's Hyundai Motor Company was appointed as official automotive partner for the next two European Championships - Euro 2012 and Euro 2016 in France - as part of the UEFA EUROTOP programme.

In January, home improvement chain Epicentre K was unveiled as the first of four Ukrainian national sponsors.

UEFA's other top tier partners for Euro 2012 so far include adidas, Carlsberg, Castrol, Coca-Cola, Orange with sister company Telekomunikacja Polska, McDonalds and Sharp.
